albertonykus’ dinosauria diagram [dinogram?], which illustrates dinosaur relationships and why birds are dinosaurs. i remade myself it to be a little easier on the eyes, but i give full credit for this to albertonykus.
the simplest, biggest, most down-to-the-common-ancestor division of dinosaurs is between the lizard-hip group and the bird-hip group. the lizard-hips include the dinosaurs that went on to grow feathers and become birds… but some herbivores in the other group have been proven to have feathers of all things.
so the common-ancestor for all dinosaurs had to have some degree of primitive feathering on its body.
so there’s reason to believe that all dinosaurs had [whether they actually grew any or not, much like how birds have teeth when developing in the egg] some variety of primitive feathers.
